S.A. Kayak. Fishing. Unbelievable. Learning. Site. ORG Or SAKFULS .ORG Sorry I couldn't stop him. He ran into the room and overpowered me typed that then ran off. ;D If people are looking for Aussie info and do the advanced search thing and search for Aussie sites only, it might miss us in a search, but aside from that I can't think of any reason to chose one over another.... Coin toss?

what sort of incentive? I reckon we need to be in the results of something like a google search so i voted ".com.au"

Even if it didn't have a .au AND the site is hosted in the US there's a way to get it to come up as Australian... somehow lol. I believe that having a .au will make us more "occa" but going through a certain Aussie site it carrie a few advertising and non-dodgy benefits. If i took the free .net domain from Bluehost then they could (and it HAS been done) hold the domain at ransom should we ever decide to leave Bluehost (and we would definitely leave them eventually). Apparently the .au register guys that actually dish out the domains are good guys. Example, when going .au, if your reseller goes bust "apparently" the Aussies are very good about not letting people get screwed and you should still retain your domain. On the other hand I've heard some horror stories about US domains.

I have a couple of .au sites hosted in the US makes no difference where it is
SAKFA.org.au will be cheaper, probably around 20Au for 2 years
Plenty of cheap hosting around, but you get what you pay for....to a certain degree. Maybe there is a local host that might want to help out.
I bought some hosting for about $30 a year (eBay), was all good for 2 years then dissappeared.
I have used this mob a few times, domain name reg and hosting. planetdomain.com.au all legit and good.

Yeah, firgured as much Wapstar RE whether US hosting makes a difference. It's reports like this that steer me away from Planet Domain forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies-archive.cfm/829133.htmlI'm still nervous about going Bluehost as they have VERY mixed reviews and their TOS states that they can (and have) pull down your site at any time. After playing around on whirlpool for a while Net Logistics seems to be at the top of the cheap companies. 'Course, even with out dollar in the crapper it will still cost twice as much as Bluehost. We'll see, still got a week to make my decision.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Well that was a waste of time. I'll be going with a .net! Why? Because we're no incorporate nor do we have an acn. What does that mean? We're ineligible for .com.au .net.au .org.au and .asn.au! I sort of understand, better than the .com system where it's a free-for-all. Ah well, I tried to be inclusive and give you guys a say, the thought was there.

I've redirected the nameservers and.... www.sakfa.net is up and running! (well... sometimes... ;D) Of course she probably wont be launched for a good ten days (need to set up account with NetLog and get the vBulletin licence first). For now you can all play peeping tom and laugh at me while I stuff around trying to learn how to build websites.
