Thanks to your comment in Darren's trip report Rob and I now have to write up a policy for what language will and wont be allowed. We have been notified of the fact that posts like Lee's would not be allowed on some other forums. While I was hoping we could just let people run free range on the forum Rob and I take everyone's opinion seriously and are discussing our options behind the scenes. If you have an opinion on whether (or to what degree) profanity should be allowed on the board please PM myself or Rob ASAP.

If you have an opinion on whether (or to what degree) profanity should be allowed on the board please PM myself or Rob ASAP. It's simple NO PROFAITY,as this is a public web site... Some members of the public could and would take offense to that sort of language......There are plenty of other words, one could use instead.... I personally don't find it offensive, and can swear with the best of them....But there is no need for it on a PUBLIC web site....

You've already made your stance clear with us via PM and it will be taken into consideration. The fact is that some words are common place in our society and you (forum admins and mods) need to move with the times, not every bit of profanity is offensive. I agree that excessive swearing is over the top however I'm not going to run a site where the second someone steps out of line we're going to send them to the sin bin.
The fact is that in real life our language is much worse than it is on the forum and I think everyone has done a good job so far. When we have a conversation on the beach on the morning of a trip we are in a public place also, should we not be allowed to swear so as not to give the SAKFA a bad name? I think that prospective members will be turned off if every second word is a swear but 1 bit of profanity in 84 topics? I personally (admin cap off) see no issue with that.

Correct I have made my stance with a PM to you,and YES one does hear foul language in every day life, but there is no need for it on a web site.....KEEP your language to yourself or your mates, and when you are out fishing etc... As you say 1 swear word in 84 topics, but you need to make it clear to all members that it should not happen, and that there is no need for it... I'm not saying that you should run this site with an iron fist, but there should be certain ground rules as to what one can say and do....
All in the interest of the general public......

Over the next few days I'll draft up a number of policies including one relating to profanity. Until then the general rule will for members to keep swearing to a minimum on the forum. I will implement a filter that will "modify" any of the more offensive ones should you choose to use them. The policies will draw lines in the sand and you'll then know exactly what is acceptable but for now just try and be good lol.

New policies eh ! Do you want me to sexually harrass someone and tell a few gay jokes so we can have policies for those too ?
Quite seriously, i thought my response to darrens fish was well justified ( did you see the size of that thing ? ) Normally i'd type it up as F%$#@, but must've gotten a little lazy. Wasn't trying to upset anyone, and i'll be sure to adhere to the - NO PROFANITIES POLICY - from here on in. ( unless the punishment is a darn good spanking ! )

Well it jolly-well seems we've got that problem licked . Gosh darn for a moment there I thought we'd be up to our neck in .....oops....far out I nearly said mud. I try not to ever use the filters(once they let through an insult on an online game i play) and try not to "swear" as I know it upsets some of the more delicate folk but if I slip on the odd occasion, well.....Gee whiz I don't really want to get grilled about it as if left alone it gets far less attention than if it is held up for everyone to "get a load of." I also understand that if left alone it will grow. It always does. Filtering is the best way to go I guess. But wouldn't it be nice if the offended were a bit thicker skinned. Once in 84 topics with no filtering has to be some kind of record surely?...lol. What was that about spanking?....lol.

Hey grumpy, don't mind me. I did read the posts and know you weren't offended . The fault is mine for being up 'til 5AM and not making myself clear . I'm having a stab at the delicate folk that make all this necessary, but you are correct in saying this is a public site and the public will view it and in amongst the public are thin skinned folk . I apologize if I gave you the impression I was having a go at you personally. Again the fault is mine . Like I said. I don't rely on the filters or swear as I don't think it's appropriate when kids could be looking at it so I do agree with you that it's necessary . Just wish it wasn't ...lol. Now, about that spanking?....
