Just got back last night from my Nelson raid. Had a great camping trip in a magnificent spot. Mcbigg dropped in and took me touring and fishing and even into a magnificent pub structure in a small cluster of holiday shacks...lol.
Spent my Thursday night at work as normal and headed off at around 2AM. Got there in time to wolf down a toasted bacon and egg sambo or 2 before I paid for my campsite. Got all the useful info, such as, no one's getting much and counteries finish at 8PM. Roll into camp, set up swag at 10AM and woke up at 12AM due to the sun shining on me and causing me to roast...lol.
Did a number of km down the river casting at one bank and trolling a flavoured squidgie pro along the dropoff. Nothing. Headed back up the other bank and drop off and I did actually catch a small (but legal) bream which I kind of forgot about as soon as it was released as I was after bigger fish.
The bugs, beatles and moths were really something to behold that first night and I woke up in my yak where I'd tied off covered in bugs...lol...That's right, I had a snooze in my yak for a while..LMAO. I cruised back, cooked my pizza and crashed out early.
Saturday was pretty windy but nice in the gorge and I had a bit of a fish from the jetty while I waited for mcbigg to arrive. When he did we shot the breeze for a while and headed off to see if the water was ok for craying. The water was still where it was supposed to be but didn't look very friendly so we called it off. I was then treated to a guided tour of The Mount and surrounds, visiting such places as The Little Blue, Hell hole and discussing the rough location of various Geocaches. We then headed back to the river for a fish, but not without a quick stop (and i mean quick) for some snap shots of a noice little Brown Snake.
The fishing conditions were again near enough to perfect and I was given a not really needed lesson in bait selection as I watched mcbigg hooking up to quite a few bream while I managed to keep cockle on long enough for one. Next time I'll make sure I take the right bait or keep my cockles in better shape...lol. No mullies to be seen except on the sounder ( and wasn't that exciting? ) Cruised back after dark and I decided to leave early as my new camping neighbor's music tastes didn't sit to well with me, which wouldn't have been so much off a problem if it wasn't so loud. So loud that while paddling back we could hear their shouted conversations about trying for three jobs (Had to be there...lol.)
I had a great trip and would very much like to thank my tour guide and fishing buddy for making it so good.
Cheers
Mike
Ps.I'll add some pics later...I'm running on about 6 hours sleep since Thursday morning...lol.
