Generally speaking I look down upon people whose favourite "sport" fish is "good fun on light line". No I'm not having a stab at the bream fishos for once! This goes for snook and salmon fishos like myself too. I don't think there is any substitute for a fish that will make a 15kg+ outfit scream. At least that's what I used to think...
I pulled a monster carp out of the Torrens yesterday, near Brooksey's spot for those on strikehook. I was using 10lb line and she certainly had me running all over the place. Took a damn long time to land her (relatively speaking) too. There could be something to that good fun on light line theory after all....

Jon your finally seeing the light ;D. It's all about fishing for certain fish by their fighting capabilities up against line size used. That's why we don't fish for bream with 30lb line and also by fishing light you also increase your chances of a hook up. It also makes crap like carp worth catching just for the fun of it . I've fished for Snapper on 1 kilo line many years ago but that was really taking it to the extreme and although I was successful with the smaller ones it wasn't good for the fish but use 2 kilo line on Sambo's and watch them go . Cheers Darren Admin: Pressed modify instead of quote... whoops.

Carp may be a shit fish but they fight better than snook and it's free bronzie bait so it's all good.

i can never get over light line fishing.. it gives you the best excitement and the run for your gears.. 42cm bream on 30lb is so wrong... i pull them in as a by catch at the lakes but it felt more like a disappointment on 30lb.. i scored a 9-10kg mullie at the lakes on 8lb line and 12lb leader... man that was the excitement of light line hunting.. the thrill of losing the fish and the screaming reel taking 30-50 m of line on the run.. you cant beat that.. i never looked back since..i now go as low as i possible can with the biggest fish i can possibly get... it just feels so good when you land a decent fish....
